Eligibility

Companies must specialise in defence or defence related sectors and nominate an Honours project in one of the Nominated fields of education (PDF).

Honour students must be:

  • an undergraduate
  • an Australian Permanent Resident or an Australian citizen
  • undertaking an Honours degree, or a degree with Honours at a South Australian University and in one of the Nominated fields of education (PDF)
  • high achievers, with an excellent undergraduate academic record
  • of good character and have leadership potential.

Funding options

Companies can select from one of the sponsorship options:

Gold sponsor

  • Fully fund a student scholarship valued at $7,000
  • Guaranteed entry into the program (subject to eligibility criteria)
  • Acknowledgement of support in media releases
  • Social media promotion across Department of State Development (DSD), the Playford Memorial Trust and the Defence Teaming Centre channels
  • Access to program events, including company promotion at the Awards ceremony
  • Gold Sponsor certificate for company as well as a company logo placement on relevant student certificate, presented at an Awards ceremony
  • Opportunity to discuss other promotion and recognition activities for your company.

Silver sponsor

  • The State Government to fund the student grant valued at $7,000, with the company waiving the employer host grant
  • Acknowledgement of participation in media releases
  • Social media promotion across DSD and key partner channels
  • Access to program events, including the Awards ceremony.

Program Partner

  • Company requires the State Government to fully fund the student scholarship – fees to cover both the student grant ($7,000) and employer host grant ($3,000)
  • Acknowledgement of participation in media releases
  • Access to program events, including the Awards ceremony.

A case for funding can be made in the Application form. Funding support is not guaranteed, and will be assessed by a panel on a case-by-case basis. Companies that have previously participated in this program are encouraged to become a Silver or Gold Sponsor.

About the program

The Defence Honours Scholarship Program enables companies to host students undertaking an industry nominated Honours project, enabling students to gain work experience in defence or defence related industries.

Up to 10 scholarships are awarded each year, providing an opportunity for undergraduate students to undertake their Honours project in partnership with industry. There is capacity for more scholarship positions subject to industry sponsorship.

The Defence and Honours Scholarship Program is delivered by the Department of State Development in partnership with the Playford Memorial Trust and the Defence Teaming Centre. The program enables industry partners to tap into new ideas and insight from students who are learning cutting edge technologies and applications.
