Adelaide’s leading technological innovations were in the spotlight, as more than 300 local, national and global smart city leaders gather in the city for the 2017 Telstra Australian Smart Communities Conference.
Hosted by the State Government and the Adelaide City Council, the Conference was held from 29-31 May offering visitors a taste of smart city experiences, including walking tours of smart-enabled facilities, workshops, interactive demonstrations and an expo showcasing smart solutions.
Premier Jay Weatherill will open the conference, providing insight into the government’s role in the smart city movement and Adelaide’s growing reputation as a well-connected and sustainable city.
The Telstra Australian Smart Communities Conference, led by the Australian Smart Communities Association, explores the use of smart solutions to create efficient and sustainable communities, improve quality of life for people and drive investment and job creation in a digital economy.
Adelaide continues to be Australia’s leading smart city, recognised for its enviable infrastructure projects and technology that serves for testing and trialling of smart city solutions such as LED lighting, smart parking, battery storage demonstrations. It is also home to the nation’s first Internet of Things innovation hub – Adelaide Smart City Studio – and Cisco’s first and only ‘Lighthouse City’ in Australia.
The State Government has invested almost $80 million to support innovative businesses, entrepreneurs and researchers through programs and initiatives, including GigCity Adelaide, the South Australian Early Commercialisation Fund and the South Australian Venture Capital Fund to drive economic growth and job creation.
