Tonsley is Australia’s first innovation district that brings together creative startups and global giants under the one roof.
The site is award-winning and is home to a mixed-use development, strong academic and training institutions, global companies and start-ups, and research and industry networks to offer investors a collaborative environment that supports high-value industry and innovative product and service development.
Tonsley specialises in four high-growth sectors that take advantage of South Australia’s capabilities in:
- health, medical devices and assistive technologies
- cleantech and renewable energy
- software and simulation
- mining and energy services.
The Flinders University’s School of Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics, Medical Device Research Institute and the Centre for Nanoscale Science and Technology are all located at Tonsley. The university is a hub for innovators and entrepreneurs and is key driver in collaboration with industry, business, research and academia.
TAFE SA – South Australia’s largest provider of vocational education and training – is also located on site. The Sustainable Industries Education Centre is the most innovative and advanced centre of its type in Australia. It enables TAFE SA students to interact with other Tonsley partners, businesses and industry.
The South Australian Government has invested $253 million in Tonsley to create a vibrant and dynamic environment to encourage and develop new ideas and services and drive economic development and job creation for the state.
